Become a Coach

We seek enthusiastic and energetic part-time coaches for our Youth and Masters programs. Flexible hours and competitive hourly pay.

With assistance from our all-volunteer administrative staff and board, coaches are responsible for:
  • Greeting participants and their families warmly and serving as ambassadors for BRC and the sport of rowing in all of their actions
  • Planning and implementing high quality programs consistent with BRC’s mission
  • Coordinating with administrative staff regarding scheduling and equipment sharing
  • Securing substitutes to cover absences
  • Communicating with program participants and parents regarding weather relocation, schedule changes, participant absences and when applicable, lining up boat fillers and coxswains, etc
  • Registering for regattas, coordinating equipment usage with other coaches, attending regattas (when applicable), supervising and directing trailer loading and unloading, etc
  • Positive energy and the ability to engage and motivate athletes
  • Competitive rowing or coxing experience
  • Passion for the sport of rowing along with expertise in training and technique
  • Coaching experience preferred, but not required
  • Candidate will be required to hold/obtain a Safe Sport training
  • Candidate will be required to hold/obtain a NC Safe Boating License
  • Candidate will be required to hold/obtain CPR certification
  • Submitting to a background check
  • Additional skills (trailer driving, boat maintenance, etc) are preferred, but not required

Intern

All masters rowers are invited and encouraged to become coach interns. Coach interns ride in the launch and/or attend on-land training programs in order to learn to coach by observing our head coaches. Interns are not eligible for compensation or free annual passes.
 

Assistant

Interns whom head coaches deem proficient or newcomers to BRC with some previous coaching experience may be hired as assistant coaches to fill open coaching positions. Several assistant coaches volunteer, others are compensated at a per session (about 2-hours) rate of $20 - $30 and are eligible for annual pass benefits during the season(s) they coach.
 

Head

Assistant coaches whom head coaches have identified as ready to advance and newcomers to BRC with demonstrated head coaching excellence may be hired as head coaches to fill open coaching positions. Several assistant coaches volunteer, others are compensated at a per session (about 2-hours) rate of $30 - $50 and are eligible for annual pass benefits during the season(s) they coach.
